You're going to have to pay for it but the Apple Watch 3 is the best smart watch if you are an iphone user. $400 will get you an aluminum body 38mm watch with GPS & cellular and a "sport" strap. The 42mm starts at $430. All of our non-Apple watches cost less than this but rest assured you are getting the highest quality tech. If the Apple Watch worked with an Android phone it would certainly compete for our top spot there as well.

The Gear S2 Classic is a couple years old but still offers great value and performance. The S3 is Samsung's current model but its quite a bit larger than the S2. Samsung's Tizen operating system is still growing but it functions well in this application. No on-board GPS or cellular on the S2. You will have to step up to the S3, and pay a bunch more, for those features.

The Ionic is Fitbit's first real smartwatch and while it may not excel in the design category it leads in fitness tracking and handles "smartphoning" pretty well. Battery life is a major plus with the Ionic, easily lasting 3-4 days or more. That's twice as much as most smart watches.
